For a good friend whom wants to put a residential HPump at his place.

R22 or R410  Huh?

- Long term efficiency & reliability
- Operation in very low ambient climate
- Long term availability of R22

Any input appreciated. My friend is environment conscientious and does not mind the extra $ of 410

Tks advance

I would stongly recomend the r-410a.  I did one in my brothers house, ac only, 2 summers ago. Real nice system  17 seer 2 stage with the variable speed indoor blower. His electic bill in the summer is 60% less than mine and his wife is home all day and mine is not.  We live two doors apart and our houses were built by the same builder in the same year.  Mine had a/c 8 years ago ... his just 2.

In addition 8-10 years down the road when the condensing unit needs to be replaced r410a may be the only option you have. Sure would be nice to not to have to change the ahu or coil.

R-410 has been used in residential units since 1997.  (first by Carrier) This is plenty of time to get the bugs worked out. That should be the system of choice for all new installs.

P.S.  real nice forum.... great for the controls industry

Hey Todd, nice to hear from you   Wink

Hoping all is well with you.

Tks for the input. Seems like a huge difference on the monthly $$$$ bill.
Any issues with the local tech able to service 410a ?

Tks again.
